Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the full payroll cycle, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Supervise and provide guidance, training, and quality oversight to the Payroll Specialist.
  • Partner with Human Resources and department leaders to maintain accurate, up-to-date payroll and employee records.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations, tax requirements, and internal control standards.
  • Manage payroll adjustments, bonuses, reimbursements, and garnishments.
  • Process and validate service charges and gratuities.
  • Prepare payroll reports, deliver insights, and reconcile earnings and deductions for the Director of Finance.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and secure handling of all sensitive payroll data.
  • Support the Director of Finance with payroll and labor budgeting and forecasting activities.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annualized


Qualification Requirements

  • Experience with Workday HCM, including maintaining employee data, running audits, generating reports, processing terminations, and supporting payroll integrations.
  • Prior experience managing employees is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, and/or four to five years of payroll experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Workday HRIS experience is mandatory.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and city employment laws.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, payroll processing systems, HRIS platforms, report generation, and general office automation.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of company documents.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations-addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division-using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical documents, and governmental regulations.
  • Competence in writing reports, memos, correspondence, and policies/procedures.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to respond effectively to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Clear and effective communication in English is required; Spanish language proficiency (verbal and written) is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through practical issues and adapt to situations with limited standardization. Able to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
